Q: Is there currently a wait list to join practices?
Yes. Email us, we'll add you to the wait list and then confirm when you can join. You must have email confirmation from chicagoapostles@gmail.com to come to practice. Otherwise you will be turned away. Nobody wants that to happen especially with traffic in the city on a weekday...
Q: How much water polo experience do I need to play?
Adults (over 18) with 5+ years water polo experience are welcome to contact us about playing. We are a Masters team consisting of players who used to play in college or professionally overseas. We have men and women on the team ranging from 18 to over 50.
Q: Will I slow down practice and put myself/others in danger if I don't know how to play water polo?
Absolutely. We don't have time in our practice to teach water polo basics.
Q: When are practices?
Monday and Thursday from 8 - 10 PM.
Q: Where are practices?
901 W. Roosevelt. The UIC Natatorium is an all deep, 25 yard pool. The team meets near the diving boards before practice.
Q: Can I just stop by practice?
No, email us first at chicagoapostles@gmail.com. You need to get approval from the Board to get to practice. Please see the Donate page and email chicagoapostles@gmail.com if you have any questions. We don't want you to travel all the way to the pool to not get in.
Q: What is the closest train or buses to the pool?
The UIC Halsted Blue Line Stop is walkable or you can take the #8 bus down to Roosevelt. The Roosevelt Red Line stop is semi close but you should probably take the #12 Roosevelt bus over to the pool.
Q: Is there parking near the pool?
There is metered parking right outside of the pool on Roosevelt. Check this map: 901 W. Roosevelt.
Q: Is there free parking near the pool?
Parking is free on Roosevelt west of Morgan. It’s also free on Morgan south of Roosevelt. Check this map: 901 W. Roosevelt.
Q: How much are dues?
Please see the Donate page as we're updating dues for the current year. There are No Drop-Ins unfortunately.
Q: How many tournaments do you play in each year?
We play in about 6-10 tournaments per year.
Q: Where are these tournaments?
Anywhere and everywhere. Lots in the Midwest (driving distance from Chicago), but we also try to fly out to one or two a year.
Q: How intense are practices?
It's a workout. 20 minutes of warm up while the pool is getting set up and then we scrimmage for the remainder. We expect everyone to know how to play so it is required you have years of water polo experience so you don't injure yourself or others. There will be no beginner instruction on how to play polo at practice.
Q: Who do we call if the storage room is locked before practice?
Ask the person at the front desk, tell them you're with the Apostles and the storage room by the diving boards is locked. Or walk down the stairs by the entrance and there is a Facilities office. Knock on that door and let them know the pool storage room is locked.
